Make a vertical video with music for social media

Short vertical videos are the standard on Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok. The Video Editor can make one in a few minutes.

1. Pick the shape

Choose 9:16 for vertical video, 1:1 for a square post or 16:9 for a normal widescreen video. Choose first so you can frame everything correctly.

2. Add and trim clips

Add your clips, then set the in and out points to keep only the best seconds. Reorder clips to build a simple story with a clear start, middle and end.

3. Add text

Add short text overlays with timing, position, size and colour. Keep words big and few, because people watch on small screens, often without sound.

4. Add music

Add one music track and set its volume against the original sound. Use music you made yourself, such as a beat from the DJ Console or a loop from the Loop maker, so you do not have copyright problems.

5. Export

The editor records the preview in real time, so keep the tab open until the export finishes. You get an MP4 when your browser can record one, and otherwise a WebM file. If a platform refuses WebM, convert it to MP4 with a free converter.
