How to cut an MP3 online without uploading it

Most online cutters upload your file to a server first. You do not need that. A modern browser can do the whole job on your own device, which is faster and keeps your audio private.

Trim to the part you want

Open the Audio cutter and joiner and choose your file. A waveform appears. Click near the start or end of the part you want and the nearest edge moves there. For precise edges type the start and end in seconds, or use the sliders. Press Play selection to check it.

Add a fade

Set a fade in or fade out, for example half a second, so the clip does not start or stop with a click. The fades apply to the preview and to the saved file.

Keep it or cut it out

Save the selection keeps only the part you chose. Cut the selection out removes it and joins the rest together, which is handy for deleting a mistake or an ad break.

A note on quality

An MP3 has to be decoded and then encoded again when you save, which costs a tiny amount of quality each time. For the best result save as WAV, or choose a high MP3 quality such as 256 or 320 kilobits per second.

Join several files

The same page has a Join files section. Add the files, put them in order with the arrows, choose a short crossfade if you like, and save one track. If the recording has long quiet gaps, try the Silence remover first.
